The versatility and ease of construction of Terrapin buildings enables them to be delivered into the tightest sites, as demonstrated at the Tower of London.
Construction, on behalf of Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that manages and conserves the Tower of London, ordered a building for use as a temporary Gift and Souvenir Shop, on hire for 18 months whilst substantial redevelopment work was carried out to improve the accessibility and appearance of Tower Hill. As this is a busy tourist area, the building had to be delivered and erected at night, under floodlights, in a confined space between an ice cream kiosk and a listed building, with the river immediately behind it.
At the end of the contract, the building was equally efficiently removed, even allowing for additional developments on the site.
This has also been demonstrated elsewhere in London, in the heart of the Docklands, where Terrapin removed a building on hire to ExCeL, London's waterfront venue for exhibitions, conferences and events.
ExCeL originally hired a double storey building of 5,320 sq ft, but during the hire period, had this extended twice to almost double the size. The hire period now completed, the building has been dismantled and speedily removed.
