Terrapin Development

A Vision Fulfilled for Radlett Church

At the turn of the millennium, the people of the Parish of Christ Church and St John’s in Radlett had a vision - to erect an extension for the church to provide a new hall for themselves and to serve the local community. It was to replace the existing church hall, but with a larger floor area, built on the same site.

Terrapin was chosen as part of this plan, using their steel frame construction method and Design & Build service to create a suitable environment for both church and community activities.

The building was constructed to a design prepared by architects appointed by the Church. The original church is a Grade II listed building occupying a prominent site within the town, and forming part of a conservation area. The new building, linked to the church, comprises a two storey structure with an attractive glass rotunda for the welcoming main entrance, and a main hall with modern catering facilities. Additional meeting rooms for Sunday Schools or counselling, together with new Church offices and all the proper amenities are also included. Terrapin liaised closely with the Planning Officer to obtain discharge of the conditions attached to the consent at this particularly sensitive site.

Great care was also taken in the selection of materials and included brick, natural slate and reconstituted stone.
