Jobcentre Plus
Terrapin’s design & build capabilities were fully utilised in constructing a double storey Jobcentre Plus in the Longbridge area of Birmingham South. The building, of modern appearance, accommodates the public service which helps the unemployed back into work.
This prestigious project was managed by the client’s agent, W S Atkins Consultants Limited, based in Birmingham, and was completed by Terrapin in only 25 weeks.
Jobcentre Plus brings together the best of the Employment Service, a government organisation which has embarked on a major programme of investment in information technology in order to improve its service both to jobless people and to employers, and, in the process, increase the efficiency of the labour market.
The building is a flagship for the venture that will set standards against which later UK centres can be measured. It has a total floor area of 2,100 sq m and incorporates the latest electronic technology to grant job seekers access to all employment service vacancies nationwide via the internet and touchscreen Jobpoints in a user friendly environment.
